The Artists
Nuno Maya & Carole Purnelle are an artist duo, acting in contemporary art across the classic visual languages and multimedia. Currently, they have several itinerant exhibitions, light installations and artistic collaborations across the world, taking part in international events in places as diverse as Sydney, Singapore, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Israel, Northern Ireland and France. Among them is the art installation Plastic World, a sculpture in the shape of a globe created exclusively by plastic trash caught by the artists on the beaches, and in which the countries are represented by their "ecological footprint", asking for reflection and calling on our conscience. With this artwork, the artists have won the 1st prize of Artemar Estoril 2009, a free event helding outdoors sculptures on the promenade and beaches of Cascais. The artists are also the creators and producers of LUMINA Light Festival, a free international event dedicated to the art of light, video-mapping, multimedia and interactivity, which takes place in Cascais, intervening in urban and natural spaces, and which counts with the involvement of the local community. www.lumina.pt
